Dyskurs audycji publicystycznych w kampanii eurowyborczej 2014 roku – stacje ogólnopolskie a regionalne stacje kablowe
Abstract
Th e aim of this st udy was to examine the quality of Polish public debate on
the European Elections: in other words, how current affairs TV programmes
(both national and local) tried to explain the complexity of issues concerning
the European Union and the essence of the functioning of the European
Parliament to the average viewer-voter. In the st udy, the methodology of
qualitative and quantitative content analysis were implemented.
Th e art icle presents the results of a st udy of the behaviours of journalist s
as host s of current affairs programs during election campaign, but also on
the phenomenon of thematization and st ructure of the guest s invited. Th e
st udy determined that journalist s who host ed the broadcast s of the nationwide
television failed in their role as guides to the complicated political
realities of the Euro elections campaign. Journalist ic practices described in
the art icle push political discourse towards theatricality and carnival-like
qualities, but fail to improve the voters’ level of knowledge of political
processes and hence fail to engage them into shaping these processes.
On the other hand, journalist s of local TV st ations usually presented
good quality of workshop and led the discussion in a calm, factual, honest
way, giving guest s the chance to express themselves. Th ey took the role of a neutral moderator, they do not asp ire to the role of st ar and not
impose his personality on guest s, not obscuring the topics covered in the
program. Th ey were st rongly focused on the quest ion of information, facts,
data, knowledge, concrete plans and commitments, asking about it much
more oft en than journalist s at the national TV, resulting in the receipt on
a more subst antive impression of the debate.
