Abstract
Anatolij Brusnikin is another pen name of Grigory Chkhartishvili, known to the wide audience as Borys Akunin, the author of the Erast Fandorin novel series. The paper presents the novel as an element in a hypertextual master plot. Akunin’s novels usually lean heavily on literary context, brim with subtle hints and hidden quotes. The author loves playing with the reader and A Hero of A Different Time is no different, starting right from the title which suggest that this time Akunin has drawn inspiration from A Hero of Our Times a romantic novel by Mikhail Lermontov. Indeed, Akunin transforms the original plot and the title character and sort of turns it inside out to achieve the text reflecting perfectly our times and thereby disturbing the contemporary reader.
