Abstract
In the article I present the metaphorical perceptions of the school culture which I have found in Maria Dudzikowa’s texts. Selected metaphors, showing the way the school was viewed by the author, I divided into two groups designated by blocking or liber- ating potential. To the metaphorical perceptions of the school culture, which reflect its blocking character, I included the culture of: appearance, avoidance and distrust. In the group of cultures with a liberating potential, there are also perceptions of the school culture as a war and as a culture of laughter. While the school culture is per- ceived as a fortress, contains elements from the blocking and liberating culture and is the most dialectical of the highlighted perceptions.
