Abstract
The City of the Dead in Cairo was originally the cemetery complex consist-ing of several interconnected cemeteries. As a result of the nineteenth cen-tury urbanization fever necropolis build in the sixth century completely changed its original character in the urban area of the capital of Egypt. The old burial place now full of living is home of Cairo's poor very often margi-nalized from social life. The City of the Dead is a unique social and cultural phenomenon. It is also an excellent example of the emergence of the so-called third space, which blur the distinction between private space of Mus-lim house and the public space of the city.
