Abstract
On the Polish lowland coast there are a number of systems of city agglomerations which are square with the coastal line. These agglomeration lie at a certain distance to the sea and they include small towns at the river mouths. Navigable rivers were the main factors in the formation of biocentric structures. When the river lost its navigation character this factor were the roads and communication routes running square to the coast. The formation of such structures allows for the maintenance of full priority of ecological requirements. A small port can develop inland and urbanization withdraws away from the coastal line leaving the latter in as much ecologically intact form as possible.
