Bio-inspired Urban Design: Smart Growth and Sustainable Development Frameworks for a New Urban Unit in Cracow

Abstract
The objective of the competition organized by Cracow Municipality in 2012 was to propose the program and spatial vision and development of the east part of Cracow. The design was done by the team of arch. Joao Diniz (Brazil) and arch. Dorota Wiśniewska (Poland). The task was to propose an urban scenario for about 5600 ha of Nowa Huta District in Cracow (with an ArcerolMittal Steelworks in its range). The design should have been focused on socio-economic stimulation of the district as well as on strong ecological analysis. The new development should have taken to consideration the Smart Growth and Sustainable Development frameworks.
