Accelerating regional development is one of the key factors in increasing Poland’s
attractiveness on the international scene. Investing in sports facilities and creating
sports centres on international level means opportunities for the region and its inhabitants.
Newly opened Szczecin Floating Arena is such a sports centre, consisting of two
swimm-ing pools meeting Olympic standards. The aim of this article is to present the
Floating Arena sports centre, its facilities and the opportunities they give for organising
sports tournaments, as well as sports and recreational offer for the local community that
the centre can provide, including sports events, training and educational programmes.
The main thesis is that promoting sports activities in the region provides an opportunity
for regional development and increasing Poland’s attractiveness. The analysis includes
presentation of benefits arising from the opening of such a centre, as well as advantages
of promoting sports and recreational activities in the region. The opening of Floating
Arena sports centre will definitely increase the attractiveness of the Szczecin region,
which in turn will help to more fully implement the development strategy and enhance
cooperation with other institutions interested in stimulating the local community.
