Badania dotyczące psychologicznych i społecznych wyznaczników funkcjonowania mężczyzn uzależnionych od gry na automatach losowych

Abstract

The article presents the results of research aimed at identifying the psychological and social determinants of functioning of men addicted to slot machines. The study involved 131 men playing on slot machines, who have completed the following methods: Personality Inventory NEO-FFI, Adjective Check List ACL, Cognitive Biases Questionnaire, Gambling Addiction Scale, Personal Data Sheet. 54.2% of the male respondents met the criteria for pathological gambling DSM-IV, 18.3% were at risk of addiction to gambling, and 27.5% experienced no problems with playing. The study showed that certain psychological and social variables co-exist with addiction to gambling. These are among others: increased neuroticism, reduced conscientiousness, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, low self-esteem, hedonistic tendencies, aversion to exercise, lack of stamina, inability to specify the goals in life, low resistance to stress, inability to cope with problems, guilt feelings, impulsiveness, difficulties with selfcontrol, faith in the queues dependence, the illusion of control, belief in superstitions. Most often the addicted people play to win and/or to mitigate a bad mood.
