Abstract
The paper deals with the conflicting phenomena and the potential of creating a European identity which is in understanding the current period of relatively different sometimes controversial and even at European level. In the second part the author pays attention to the basic historical stages and factors for relevant events in European identity in relation to the national identity of Slovaks especially in Central Europe (Austro-Hungarian) context but also in European coordinates of contemporary history as well as today. The paper is a didactic concept of problems and therefore is in its third part in focus The educational relevance of focusing on educating youth (university students) to modern democratic citizenship with an illustration of teaching in a particular school subject
