Streszczenie
The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons signed in 1968 creates international
legal frameworks to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. The aim of the article is to present
major provisions of the treaty with particular reference to its specific nature emerging from
high-handed division into two categories of states. Then, the concise review of the mechanism
of control and verification is carried out, focusing on gaps and controversies. The impact of the treaty for international system is also taken into consideration, first of all in terms of achievement of the defined objective which is steaming the tide of nuclear proliferation.
