Odrodzenie czy kolaboracja? Uwagi do książki Switłany Maksymenko

Abstract
This review is devoted to a book by Svitlana Maksymenko "Ukrainian Theater in Lviv in a Period of the German Occupation (1941-1944)", which is the first publication on a difficult and often concealed period of the Ukrainian theater's activity. The history of one theatrical ensemble which grew up and developed in the conditions of terror and the moving fronts of WWII is the least known. In spite of the fact that the author raises issues which are not so distant from the perspective of time and geography, she struggles with a lack of documents, witnesses and access to archives. The revival of the Ukrainian theater under the German occupation was a strictly hidden fact in the USSR. The communist authorities used everything at their disposal to destroy all traces of its existence. The book by Svitlana Maksymenko retrieves this evidence from oblivion and restores it to the pages of Ukrainian theatrical history.
