Odwieczne Słowo – stała się Ciałem, by zamieszkać pośród nas i obdarzyć
nas światłem życia, możemy mówić o aspektach obecności Boga, którego
znakiem w liturgii jest światło. Jest to niewątpliwie aspekt dogmatyczny, bo
dotyczy prawd objawionych o Bogu samym, a następnie historio-zbawczy,
soteriologiczny, bo mówi o interwencji zbawczej Boga względem człowieka,
o zwycięstwie światłości nad ciemnością. Ale nie jest on nigdy abstrakcyjny,
bo Liturgia święta, w której mamy znaki obecności Boga w symbolu światła
– sprawowana jest w Kościele. Mówimy więc o aspekcie eklezjalnym tego
znaku liturgicznego.
o osiągnięcie życia i światła wiecznego.
The article analyses chosen euchologies of the Roman Missal. Through a review of
certain mass prayers, a picture of light (lux – lumen) emerges that is rich in deep theo-
logical content. The light is a magnificent sign of the existence of God in the Liturgy of
the Church as the Roman Missal testifies. First of all, we learn who is God as the Light
and what is His activity towards the redemption of the human being. Secondly, a truth
about the human being emerges from these prayers – who is the one living in the light
of the Lord and what is his/her fate?; what is his/her path guided by the light which is
a redeeming gift from God? There is also a strong reference to the Creation which is
a work of the Light and serves the human being to reach the objective for which he/
she has been created. Those three levels of the engagement of the Light, which eventu-
ally became the Body to live among us and give us the gift of the light of life, allow us
to talk about the aspects of God’s existence whose sign in the Liturgy is the Light. It is
a dogmatic aspect since it concerns the truths about God’s revelation, but also a historic-
redemptive soteriological one, as it talks of God’s redemptive intervention, of the victory
of light over darkness. But it is never abstract because the Holy Liturgy, where signs
of God’s existence can be found in the symbol of light, is said in Church. Thus we are
talking about the ecclesiastical aspect of this liturgical sign. Finally also, because of the
life objective of the human being, we can talk of the eschatic aspect of that sign, because
the aim is to achieve eternal life and light. This richness of theological content emerges
from mass euchology. It is possible to find more of such examples, but the aim of this
article was not to fully exploit the subject matter but to enhance the reader to deepen and
develop his/her spiritual absorption of God’s light in his/her life.
