Tiberius Gemellus belongs to the most secret figures of the early principate. The original informations concerning him are very rare, and these which exist not always are worthy of belief. Tiberius Gemellus – because of the young age and maybe because of other limitations – didn’t demonstrate the bigger activity. The lack of self-dependence of Tiberius Gemellus was noticeable also in the trial of regaining his place in the succession plans. Despite of the all sources limitations, the opinion can be ventured, that together with gaining the tribune power by Drusus the Younger, it was decided, that the next emperor after Tiberius will be his son, and in the next successors the grandsons – Tiberius Gemellus and Germanicus Gemellus. After the death of Drusus the Younger in the role of successors were seen the descendants of Germanicus and Agrippina the Elder – Nero and Drusus. After taking them to the prison, the succession was transferred to Tiberius Gemellus with Sejanus as his protector. After the year 29-th, as the result of the coincidence of different events the thought was closer, that the successor will be Sejanus. Together with the downfall of the powerful, as he was seen, prefect, the question of succession was temporary suspended. Soon the public opinion obtained the image of the equivalent descendance of Caligula and Tiberius Gemellus. It found the confirmation in the testament of Caesar Tiberius from the year 35. Despite of the formal equality of rights of the grandsons of the princeps, practically he indicated Caligula as the older, introduced in the public life, son of the popular Germanicus, the closer relative of the creator of the principate – divine Augustus. The period between the official pointing out of the successors and the death of Tiberius is so much darkened by the sources that we are not able to decide, if Emperor didn’t want to introduce some changes in the matter of his succession. Together with the death of the old princeps the total power was taken by Caligula. He rejected all the claims of Tiberius Gemellus for the participation in the highest power, but by adopting him and giving him the title of the leader of the youth, gave him also the hope of taking the power in the future. It’ s hard to accept that the young Caesar treated seriously his declarations. The death of Tiberius Gemellus cut off definitely the, concerning him, political calculations.en
