| dc.description | The keen interest in human names displayed by psychologists (espe-cially those from the USA) has generated much research, the effects of which are not as yet widely known in Poland. This article presents the results of several such research programs, concerning the connotation of names, the conseąuences of socalled unusual names, the naming process and the attractiveness of names. These results are not unanimous. The archival method and the correlative procedurę are often used in these research programs. Some have a causative character. Both interpretation and integration are made difficult by the lack of an adeąuate theoretical structure. Still, despite its numerous methodolo-gical shortcomings, the knowledge gathered in the article seems to be a convincing proof that names are an important psychological variable. This has also been noticed by scientists researching gender-related stereotypes, who proved the importance of names in a series of experiments. | pl |
| dc.description.abstract | Zainteresowanie psychologów, szczególnie amerykańskich, ludzkimi imionami zaowocowało licznymi, lecz mało znanymi w Polsce badaniami. Artykuł prezentuje wyniki niektórych z nich. Dotyczą one: konotacji imion, konsekwencji tzw. imion niezwykłych, nadawania i atrakcyjności imion. Uzyskane rezultaty nie są jednoznaczne. W badaniach stosuje się często metodę archiwalną i procedurę korelacyjną. Część z nich ma charakter przyczynkarski. Interpretację i integrację utrudnia też brak odpowiedniej struktury teoretycznej. Mimo wielu słabości metodologicznych zgromadzona wiedza przekonuje, że imiona są ważną zmienną psychologiczną. Dostrzegli to nie tylko ci, którzy są autorami przedstawionych badań, ale m.in. badacze stereotypów związanych z płcią, wykazując w swoich badaniach eksperymentalnie znaczenie imion. | pl |
