Inwestycje transportowe w regionie Öresund
Abstract
In July 2000 a permanent connection between Denmark and Sweden was realised.
The bridge over Oresund (Öresund Fixed Link) is a 16-km long combined tunnel and
bridge connection linking Copenhagen and Malmö. A major problem for the companies using the bridge is the high bridge toll. A lower toll would increase the speed of integration and the traffic volume between the two sides of Öresund. However, not all transport and logistic companies expect to change from ferry to bridge.
In addition to fixed link across the Öresund, public investments in other transport
infrastructure projects have been made (road, rail, and especially public transport infrastructure).
The merger between Copenhagen Port and Malmö Port and the co-operation
between Copenhagen Airport and Sturup Airport are also important.
The Öresund bridge has greatly improved the infrastructure of the Öresund region.
It is also expected that the new link will increase integration in the region and lead to a more efficient division of labour in the region as a whole. Fixed link has spanned economic, administrative, institutional, technical and cultural barriers and given the Öresund area the potential to develop into one functional metropolitan region.
