Perspektywy obsługi tranzytu Ukrainy przez porty Gdańska i Gdyni

Abstract
Political and economic transformations in Central and Eastern Europe have changed conditions for shaping the potential hinterland for Polish international ports. In case of the ports in Gdańsk and Gdynia that hinterland have been increased by transport markets of Baltic States, Belarus and western Ukraine. According to some forecasts an increase in transit turnovers in the both ports, which have a substantial capacity to accept and service new cargoes, may be achieved thanks to a rising share of commodities coming from Ukraine as well. In her paper the Author presents short characteristics of the ports in Gdańsk and Gdynia and their growth plans, as well as investments which they have undertaken in the context of the future intensification of the Ukrainian transit through the ports in the Bay of Gdańsk. The south-eastern direction has been highlighted in their growth strategy, so we may consider the both ports to be competitive for Ukrainian freights as far as service quality is concerned.
