Port gdyński w okresie restrukturyzacji
Abstract
The port of Gdynia is a little over 75 years old but it's still the youngest port
in Poland and one of newer in Europe. It's universal port but it's also specialized in
reloading the general cargo, especially containers and corn. The port services about
90% of containers reloading of all Polish sea ports and 50-55% of corn and fodder
of Polish foreign trade. The turnover of the port exceeds 8 million tons per year and
reloading strength is estimated for 12-15 million tons. The participation of railway
transport in servicing the port in 1997 increased to 20,5%.
In 1984 The Management Board of Port of Gdynia was transformed into Sea
Commercial Port of Gdynia. In 1991 there was initialized restructuring process of
Sea Commercial Port of Gdynia when existing since 1953 state company was
transformed and registered as one-man company of the State Treasury named Sea
Commercial Port of Gdynia Inc.. In 1996 this company was transformed into Port of
Gdynia Holding Inc. consisting of many independent companies. The main idea of
transformation was to separate the port operating from ground and infrastructure
management i.e. separating independent companies which owned specialized
terminals and are parts of holding structure under mother: Port of Gdynia Holding
Inc. - the manager of the port.
In 1994 there were established Baltic Corn Terminal and Baltic Container
Terminal and in 1995: Sea Bulk Cargo, Baltic General Cargo Gdynia, Transport
Plant „Trans-Port", Port Technic Plant and Port Supplying Plant. In 1996 there was
established Navigation and Port Services Company „WUZ". The list of companies
can be completed by Port Works Enterprise, Port Energetic and Water Machinery
r Operating „SIEC" as well as„Depot - Terminal Gdynia".
The port of Gdynia services about 50% of general cargo reloading of all
Polish ports per year. In the structure of port turnover the general cargo including
containered amounts about 40%. Baltic Container Terminal is the only one port
terminal for containers reloading in various transport relations. To this terminal it
belongs also Ferry-Base located inside its area. There's concentrated here about
25% of passenger ferry traffic and 10% of goods ferry traffic leading through Polish
ports.
The port development strategy is opened for trade and transport activity.
Thank's that the port of Gdynia is and will be important Baltic transport centre.
