Abstract

In the preliminary stage of the adaptation of Poland’s economy to EU structural requirements the main emphasis is put on the modernization of Polish agribusiness. The implementation of advanced IT systems is accompanied by globalization, which pervades economic events and implies the necessity of mutual adjustment. Conducting business activity in a knowledge-oriented economy depends on state-of-art IT solutions which condition the adaptation of Polish enterpreneurship to the requirements of a free-market economy. The newest information technology system enables a company to keep a strong position on a local as well as international market. The most prominent type of IT systems used in agribusiness is, undoubtedly, the internet – a widely accessible tool for sending and receiving massages. The article focuses on the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS) as an excellent example of IT implementation in agribusiness. The system operates by means of state-of-art information technology and the internet. The author tackles the issue of the high cost of IT implementation, which is particularly important in the current phase of the transformation of Polish ecomony. The high significance of the above mentioned issue is explained by the fact that Polish agribusiness faces deep restructurization which might be accomplished with the help of EU structural funds.
