Abstract
W strukturach Kościoła Anglii szczególną pozycję zajmuje arcybiskup Canterbury, najstarszej angielskiej diecezji i prowincji kościelnej. Chociaż w średniowieczu zasiadający na katedrze św. Augustyna toczyli spory z konkurencyjną prowincją Yorku o potwierdzenie swojego wyjątkowego statusu, to byli oni faktycznymi przywódcami kościoła w Anglii. Zdarzenia związane z reformacją tylko potwierdziły prymat arcybiskupów Canterbury, czyniąc z nich duchowych przywódców Kościoła Anglii, którzy później na skutek zdarzeń historycznych stali się duchowymi przywódcami Wspólnoty anglikańskiej na całym świecie. Rozdział jest poświęcony przedstawieniu pozycji arcybiskupa Canterbury w ramach struktur Kościoła Anglii oraz Wspólnoty anglikańskiej. Jego pozycja jest tym większa, że przyjęty model państwa wyznaniowego na terenie Anglii czyni z arcybiskupa także członkiem organów państwowych. W pracy przedstawiono rolę, status, pełnione funkcje oraz przywileje należne arcybiskupom Canterbury. Opisano także inne stanowiska w ramach Kościoła Anglii, a które nierozerwalnie związane są z posługą Arcybiskupa. W tekście zamieszczono także obszerne wyjaśnienia związane z właściwą dla Kościoła Anglii terminologią czy też objaśnienia dotyczące specyfiki jego struktur i prawa wewnętrznego. Całość opatrzono rysem historycznym ułatwiającym zrozumienie stanu aktualnego. Pracę oparto na anglojęzycznej literaturze przedmiotu. Stan faktyczny i prawny na dzień 31 sierpnia 2023 r.Within the structures of the Church of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the oldest English diocese and ecclesiastical province, holds a special position. Although in the Middle Ages the incumbents of St Augustine's Cathedral were in dispute with the rival province of York over the assertion of their unique status, they were the de facto leaders of the Church of England. The events of the Reformation only confirmed the primacy of the Archbishops of Canterbury, making them the spiritual leaders of the Church of England, who later, as a result of historical events, became the spiritual leaders of the Anglican Communion worldwide. The chapter is devoted to presenting the position of the Archbishop of Canterbury within the structures of the Church of England and the Anglican Communion. His position is heightened by the fact that the adopted model of the denominational state within England also makes the Archbishop a member of state bodies. The paper outlines the role, status, functions performed and privileges attached to the Archbishops of Canterbury. Other positions within the Church of England, and which are inextricably linked to the Archbishop's ministry, are also described. The text also includes extensive explanations of the terminology specific to the Church of England or explanations of the specifics of its structures and internal law. A historical outline is also included to facilitate understanding of the current state.
