The depopulation processes ocurring in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union are accompanied by the increase in the number of the oldest persons. Further deepening of these tendencies is strongly unfavourable, because the population remaining in this area is getting older and it cannot in any way contribute to the reduction of depopulation. In 2006 in Russia 20,4% of the population was in the postproduction age. The highest share of the oldest persons can be found in the European part of Russia. The highest percentage of the postproduction age population could be found in the Central District (23,4%) and the lowest - in the most eastern Far Eastern District (16,1%). The ageing process touches more the Slavic nations, especially the ethnic Russians. In the units with the highest share of Russians, the majority of the population reached postproduction age, while in the areas of concentration of the non-Slavic populationpl_PL
